What do you expect me to accomplish in the first 60 to 90 days?
Exceptional applicants hit the ground running, and don’t spend weeks or even months to “get to know the organization.” They’re interested in making an impression right away and setting realistic, measurable goals for the future.
Whether you’re fresh out of college interviewing for an entry-level position, or a seasoned professional with years of experience under your belt, it’s important to remember that all companies prefer employees who’re proactive and not afraid to get their hands dirty. Asking this question shows that you’re eager to understand employer expectations and are looking forward to delivering on them.
What are some notable qualities of your top performers?
Every employee – especially the top performers – brings something valuable to the table to further the company’s long-term growth. Maybe they are punctual and are happy to work an extra hour to get the job done, or they prioritize creativity over structural methodology. Or they focus more on getting more conversions from even the most hard-to-get customers, instead of building customer relationships. Maybe they dedicate the same amount of time to an entry-level customer with no prior purchases and a recurring customer.
Great candidates want to know what makes a “winner” so they can inculcate similar habits for an optimal outcome.
Apart from task-based responsibilities, what are some things you expect from your employees to maintain a healthy work culture?
Asking about the CEO’s expectations can help you in two ways:

– It shows you care about the company and want to develop a strong work ethic, increasing your value.
What is the one thing you would change about the company?
Many CEOs are continuously finding ways to improve how their companies function in day-to-day operations to achieve long-term growth. Knowing what your CEO wants to change can help you identify and assist them with their objectives. For example, if your CEO tells you that they want to increase the funding for the customer service department, you know that they care about client satisfaction and can prioritize this value accordingly.
You can also see if other managers and executives in the organization share the same ideas. If they do, then you know the leadership team is aligned and where change may occur in the future. Understanding where you can expect developments can help you prepare for change and demonstrate your flexibility.
What does your typical day look like?
This question will help you understand what your CEO prioritizes and how they manage their time. You can align your priorities with your CEO’s if you know what they think is most important. If your CEO mentions that they spend a portion of their time doing something you’re unfamiliar with, ask them to elaborate so you can learn more about company processes.
During your career, you may have an opportunity to speak with your CEO multiple times, but asking compelling questions during your interview will help you put your best foot forward.
