At Workship, we’re always trying to help people find the jobs they’re best suited for and continue to better ourselves based on the feedback.
Recently, we had a chance to chat with Piyush Bisen, who reached out to us a while ago during his job search and here’s what he had to say about his experience.

What kind of job profile were you looking for? How similar was it to the job you currently have?

I was looking for a job as a C++ developer, and exploring opportunities in domains like Big data and Machine Learning at the same time. I wanted a job where I’d be able to improve my existing skill-set while learning about the new technologies and concepts that are taking the tech industry by storm.

Luckily, my present job almost matches what I had in mind.

We’d like to know more about your experience with Workship!  Can you elaborate on the hiring process (from registration to getting an offer) that you went through with Workship to land your job?

Moving on from my previous company, and diving headfirst into the job hunt was quite honestly a scary transition, but from the moment I interacted with the people behind Workship, majority of my fears were put to rest. Previously, I had tried to take help from third-party platforms and recruitment consultancies, however, my experience wasn’t very pleasant—in fact, I was rather annoyed by how ad hoc all the processes were.

With Workship, I simply signed up and entered all the necessary details related to my professional experience, skill-set, and educational qualifications. I also took a self-assessment test, wherein I was able to rate my knowledge on technical topics and gauge how well I was prepared for an interview.

I received a call from Kavita, the Senior Technical Recruiter at Workship who informed me that my profile was a good match for a job in Workship’s database. After I expressed my interest in going forward with the hiring process, I received a call from Sandeep who cross-examined me on my technical proficiency, which really helped me brace for the actual interview.

Once I cleared the Workship’s screening criteria, my profile was forwarded to the company I was a match for. Eventually, their HR scheduled two interviews for me with my immediate seniors which I cleared over the course of a week.

Much to my (and my friends’) surprise, I had an offer letter in my hands within two weeks of getting in touch with Workship. I am extremely happy with my job, where I get to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry in an environment that complements my learning curve.

Overall, it was a great experience—and needless to say, a significantly better one than the others. I felt like someone just stepped in and took control of my job search journey for me. What more could I ask for?

How was your experience with the people behind Workship? What was their role in your job hunting journey?

Kavita was my primary point of contact at Workship. Not only was she warm and welcoming, but her eagerness and transparency also proved to be immensely helpful during the hiring process. She was available to answer any and all of my questions and made sure that I had all the tools and resources to prepare for my interview.

Apart from my queries related to the company I was shortlisted for, she was very prompt in clearing my doubts regarding the offer letter once I was hired. Lastly, Sandeep was happy to check-in from time to time with me for any feedback I had about the process (which I was happy to provide!) and he took my suggestions—small or big—seriously.

Since I had clarity about my job search since the very beginning, I felt very positive during the entire process—something that’s hard to so when you’re unsure about where your career is heading. Ultimately, I’d always be grateful to them for gauging not just my professional skills, and qualifications, but also determining my strengths and weaknesses, so they could place me in a position where I can thrive.

I’ve heard several stories of people getting offers from ‘too good to be true’ companies that they join and regret later—simply because, it’s important to consider if the company culture and work environment are suited to your personality. Workship made sure I was paired up perfectly with a job that would do nothing but good things for me…and they were most definitely right.

Did you also try other recruitment portals? How different was your Workship experience as compared to them?

Yes, I did, but here’s the thing about most of these online job search platforms: Given that you’re making all the decisions of completing your profile, applying for relevant jobs, and researching for the right opportunities—the process can be extremely isolating, not to mention, time-consuming.

With Workship, I was in touch with an actual person from the get-go. Yes, technology is involved to a certain extent, but their personal touch is what makes them stand out, in my opinion. I knew the person assisting me through every step of the hiring process, and I was confident they’d ensure that I get the job I deserve. Workship was very prompt to reach out whenever a company was interested in my profile but was careful enough to not spam me with promotional messages that are not relevant.

What, according to you, are the most common pain points that candidates encounter while looking for a job?

I feel that a lot of companies have a long, cumbersome hiring process, that can turn off a lot of candidates—especially, the ones who are looking to switch and already have the responsibilities of their day-job to attend to. While I understand the need for having an organized recruitment process in place, it’d be easier to minimize the number of steps to only the essential ones.

In my case, one of my interviews from another recruitment consultancy got postponed at the last minute, which really didn’t sit well with my schedule. I had already set aside important things to attend the interview, and postponing it meant that I had to do it all over again.

I, personally, find it difficult to partake in salary negotiations, simply because I think my overall package should be based on my capabilities and not my bargaining skills. Considering that everyone is aware of the industry standard, I feel we can do away with a lot of back and forth when it comes to negotiations.

How successful would you say Workship has been in combating these issues?

Kavita ensured that I didn’t have to worry about most things that I usually get bothered about when it comes to job search and hiring. Thankfully, my interview was scheduled promptly and Sandeep made sure I was offered a compensation closest to my market value.

Workship is a healthy combination of technology and human touch, which means, I was assisted at every step and didn’t have to do a single thing alone. On most job platforms, you’re stuck talking to chatbots, which is very frustrating.

If you could give one suggestion to candidates searching for a job, what would that be?

Speaking from my personal experience, I feel like a lot my friends and industry peers tend to prioritize remuneration over culture or work-life balance. In the long-term, there’s no point in having an enormous amount of money in your account, when you can’t walk away from your desk.

Therefore, my advise is pretty straightforward: Do not compromise with your health and personal life. Always look for a company that acknowledges your contribution, and values your time.
